(Emergency Care Help Organization)
ECHO provides food and clothing to those in need of short-term assistance
in the Brandon area. Its primary means of support comes from the
generosity of local civic organizations, churches, businesses, and citizens
-- it gets no funding from any local, state, or federal agency.
Would you like
to help?
ECHO always needs these non-perishable food items:
• Canned Meats (tuna, chicken, etc.)
• Peanut butter
• Cereals
• Canned pastas (Spaghetti O’s, Beef-a-Roni, etc.)
•
Snacks (crackers, granola bars, cookies, etc.)
• Powdered drink mixes
(Kool-Aid, tea, etc.)
Diapers (sizes 4 and 5) are also
needed.
Place your
items in the wooden box in the breezeway labeled "Food Pantry" and they will
be delivered to ECHO.
Contact: Therese Roberts through the church office.

Upcoming Events
and Etc. |
|
It’s that time
of year again when we watch the weather for the possibility of
tropical storms or hurricanes.
If a hurricane forces us to cancel Sunday morning worship
services, we will hold the worship service the following
Wednesday at 7 pm unless there is still an imminent threat from
a hurricane.
If school is in session and Hillsborough County cancels school or any school activities,
we will also cancel Immanuel Lutheran School and any scheduled
events.
We will make every effort to keep you informed by using a group
email, the church voice messaging system, and the home page of
the church website.
If in doubt, call the church office at 689-1787.
Check out the
Lutheran Services Florida website for specific instructions on
getting ready.

The prediction this
year is for a very busy hurricane season.
The Social Concerns Committee has seen a need to revive
our Hurricane Family Sponsorship Program that we had a few years back.
The basic premise of this program is this: certain
families in evacuation zones have nowhere to evacuate. Because of
health reasons or other issues they are unable to go to an ordinary
shelter.
In the past, there were families who had rooms available
to accommodate some of these evacuees. The Social Concerns Committee
would like to match evacuees with homes that perhaps have extra bedrooms
or facilities. In order to do that, we would like to re-initiate the
Hurricane Family Sponsorship Program.
In the past, people with extra rooms or sleeping
quarters in their homes filled out a Hurricane Family Sponsorship form.
These sponsors would be known as the "host family" and those who are
evacuees known as the "hurricane guest" and would be matched up to those
families according to needs and facilities available.
In order to initiate this program, the Social Concerns
Committee needs your cooperation. If you can accommodate a couple,
a family or a single person and would like to help during the time of
hurricane evacuation, please fill out a Hurricane Host Family Survey.
If you are a potential evacuee, please fill out the
Hurricane Guest Survey.
The Social Concerns Committee will match families in
order to make this hurricane season a bit more comforting for those who
have special needs.
Even if you have done this in the past and have or are a
host family, please renew this information by filling out a form again.
See the forms for evacuees and volunteer Home Hosts
in the breezeway.
For more information, please call the church office at
813-689-1787.

Immanuel’s next BLOOD DRIVE is
August 1, 2010. Mark your calendar and sign up online or on the sign-up
sheet in the breezeway.
Did You Know?
• 37 % of the U.S.
population is eligible to donate blood, yet, less than 10% do
annually. This is why repeat donors are so vital to our
blood supply.
• 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
• A lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
• Every summer our high school donors, which provide 15% of our
community's blood supply during the school year, go on holiday.
The loss of their donations along with those from other regular
donors who are also on vacation, create a summer donor drought.
Yet, patient blood needs continue.
Please
make August 1st your date to donate today!
Thank you!!

An easy way to make sure your gifts
keep on giving — even when you're away
______________
Many members of Immanuel have discovered
the convenience, reliability and safety of this automated program
offered through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The program is designed to help you conveniently and consistently
contribute to our congregation (or to pay tuition at our school), by
letting you make your gifts or tuition payments through a pre-authorized
withdrawal from your bank account.
So, when you're up north on your summer vacation, or
even when you're unable to get to church, your gifts are still making a
difference.
You determine the frequency of your automatic gift—weekly,
semi-monthly or monthly—the option is yours.
Your gift or payment is deposited into Immanuel's bank account on the
same day it is withdrawn from your account—at no cost to you or the
church/school.
See Irene Davis in the church office or Rich Steinbrueck, our
Thrivent Representative, to learn more about the program and for
enrollment forms.
